What a pest control
visit actually fixes.
Good pest control is not a spray on a schedule. It is working out which pest you have, where it is living and how it gets in, then treating that. Here is what that looks like for each of the problems we handle as an exterminator.

Ant control
- We handle carpenter ants, sugar ants, and odorous house ants by following the trail back to the colony, treating the source, and treating the entry points they were using to get in.

Rodent exclusion
- For rats and mice, we start with how they got in. We seal the entry points, set bait stations around the outside and refill them every visit, and trap whatever is already inside.

Yellow jacket removal
- We take care of yellow jackets, paper wasps, and bald-faced hornets, and we can be out to treat within 48 hours. Honeybees are the exception, and we refer those to a beekeeper.

Spider treatment
- Hobo spiders and giant house spiders are the two PNW species worth knowing. We treat for both, and we clear the webs off your eaves and siding while we're at it.

Mosquito control
- We treat the shady spots where mosquitoes rest and knock out the standing water where they breed, with heavier visits from May through August.

Pest control for cockroaches
- German cockroaches in kitchens and apartments, and the big oriental water bugs in damp crawl spaces. We bait and treat where they hide and breed, then come back to make sure it worked.

- We run scheduled programs for restaurants, retail, and multi-family buildings, with the kind of written records a health inspector wants to see.

- We rodent-proof crawl spaces, replace worn-out vapor barriers, and haul away the mess. Most homes around here need this work every 10 to 15 years.

How much does pest control cost?
Four things set the price: what the pest is, how far it has already gone, how much ground there is to walk around the house, and whether you need one visit or ongoing protection. A single wasp nest is one visit. Rats in a crawl space is an inspection, sealing, bait stations, trapping and a follow-up.

DIY or call an exterminator?
When a store spray stops being enough.
A few ants in May can be a do-it-yourself job, and our guide on how to get rid of ants covers what actually works. Call a pro when the problem keeps coming back, when you hear scratching in a wall or ceiling, when you find fine sawdust near framing (carpenter ants), or when a nest is somewhere you cannot reach safely.
Sprays kill what they touch and often scatter the rest. An exterminator's job is the source: the colony, the nest or the gap they are using. That is also why rats in a crawl space need sealing, not just traps.

Is getting pest control worth it?
- For a one-off problem like a single wasp nest, a pro visit is about speed and not getting stung. For rodents, carpenter ants or anything that keeps coming back, it is usually cheaper than the damage: rats chew wiring and soil insulation, and carpenter ants hollow out wet framing. The value is in finding how the pest is getting in and closing it, which store sprays do not do.

How often should you get pest control?
- Quarterly is the standard for a home with ongoing pressure, because most products and exclusion work hold for about a season and PNW pest activity turns over with the weather. Some homes only need a one-time treatment. Restaurants and other food businesses usually go monthly. We tell you which you actually need after the first inspection.

What does a pest control service include?
- An inspection of the inside and the exterior, identification of what you have and how it is getting in, a targeted treatment at the source (bait, direct nest treatment or exclusion, depending on the pest) and a written report of what we found and did. Follow-up visits and warranty re-treatments are part of the service, not an add-on.

Do exterminators get rid of rats and mice for good?
- Only if the entry points get sealed. Trapping and baiting remove the rodents already inside, but a gap a quarter inch or larger lets the next ones in. That is why our rodent work starts with exclusion, sealing roofline, vent and foundation gaps with hardware cloth, sheet metal and mortar, then trapping and baiting what is left.

- Yes, when it is done properly. We use products rated for occupied homes, apply them where pests travel rather than broadcast-spraying living areas, and walk you through what goes down and where before we treat. If you keep bees, chickens or a vegetable garden, tell us and we work around them.
